My Word of the Year for 2017 plus Cents of Style Tee 50% off!

At the beginning of every year, I love to set goals.   It’s important for us moms to set goals to create vision and promote growth in every area of our lives.  Recently, I shared on my YouTube channel about goal setting and how I use my Life Planner to help me stay focused on my new year goals.  Something else I started to do was pick a word of the year.  It’s something I always wanted to do, but wasn’t intentional about it until this year.  I share about this more in depth in my video below.

The beginning of 2016 was amazing but the end of 2016 was tough.  I faced sudden health challenges in late 2016.  My digestion system and stomach became inflamed and in one week of going to ER, I couldn’t eat or drink anything I was used to anymore.  My life changed drastically.  At times, I felt I was going to die.  I felt alone.  I felt deep pain.  I felt like I couldn’t go on.  I felt like a new tomorrow would never come.  Then, I realized something about myself.  All those long nights screaming in pain, curled up on the floor in an embryo position, I prayed.  I prayed harder than I ever  prayed.  In desperation, I prayed three simple yet powerful words, “Jesus heal me”.

All I could do was trust that He was holding me in my unknown pain.  That night, I had something to hold onto. Although I felt like giving up, there was that part in me that was saying, “keep going!”.   I continued to pray every day and read a special book I checked out from the library during that time by Robin Jones Gunn called Victim of Grace:  When God’s Goodness Prevails.  In this book, she also encouraged women to pick a word for the year.  Excitedly, I felt compelled to do this although I felt like I didn’t know if 2017 would come fast enough for me.

Ruben and Hadara continued to pray for me during those long nights and many people around the world were praying for my healing every day.  I felt bathed in God’s love and mercy.  My faith grew stronger and I began to fight violently for my life.  I took every stupid thought and lie captive that tried to combat my mind, telling me I was going to die.  I chose not to believe it, but I stood on God’s promises.  I continued to decree that He has a plan and a purpose for my life.  Although in that season, life was tough, but I was tough too.  I fought back!

Sometimes, there’s a point in our lives, when we need to contend for what belongs to us.  Whether that’s a healing, a prodigal child, a lost dream, a broken marriage.  NO matter what, life is tough, but so are you!  And you know what?  God is even tougher.  He’s tougher than any situation or any hard season you many face!

It’s been four months since my last stomach flare-up.  I’m slowly feeling better.  I even started to workout again.  I trust I am healing and know my new tomorrow has come.  I’m not going to lie and say this process happens quickly, for it takes time to heal.   Whether it’s our broken body or our broken heart.  So, as I left 2016 behind and overcame fears, and wrong mindsets.  I enter 2017 ready to BLOOM.  Ready to flourish from the seeds that were watered and tested through the hard season of drought and winter.  I’m ready to bloom in the garden and see others bloom with me.

With this blooming, I began 2017 with launching a 2nd YouTube channel of our family vlogging our daily life.  I’m officially a vlogger now!  I also just added health as a major category to this blog and my blog YouTube channel.  Hey, I even started filming my own workout videos on my channel this month to help moms like you get fit, healthy and strong.  Talk about blooming!  Something I always wanted to do, but never had the guts to do it until now.  Yes, 2017 is the year for me to grow and be the woman God intended to me.  The real me-quirkiness and all.

Today, I celebrate by wearing my favorite inspirational word tee from Cent’s of Style.   Lately, I wear it as my workout tee and It’s also perfect with jeans and a blazer.   The best thing is Cent’s of Style has this tee in other word affirmation styles plus different colors to fit your word of the year.  The coupon code is INSPIRE17 and it will take 50% off the lowest marked price + FREE SHIPPING. How I Stay Grateful When my World is Falling Apart plus Cents of Style Free Thankful Tee!

When Cents of Style sent me this beautiful tee to try, little did I know what I would be dealing with in a few days.  Last week, the ambulance rushed me to ER.  My blood pressure was low and my heart was racing.  Two days before that, I experienced the worse abdominal pain flare-up ever!  I hadn’t eaten much since then and the pain was so intense. Never had I experienced such pain!

While in the hospital, my mom stayed with me and took care of Hadara since Ruben was working.  It seemed like forever with no answers.  It’s one week now since this episode happened and I wish I could say I feel better.  But I don’t.  I know many are praying for me and if you don’t mind, would you?

I was semi-diagnosed with gastritis or ulcer colitis and urged to see my G.I. doctor which I have an endoscopy scheduled with on Nov. 17.  I can’t eat much and I’m restricted to cooked veggie power soup, dairy free yogurt, dairy free kefir, aloe vera juice and coconut water.  Actually my favorite thing is mashed potato right now.  I may also be dealing with anemia so I’m trying to raise my iron and vitamin B levels with food however challenging that may be.

As I changed over the calendar, I am reminded that it’s November.  I look ahead and realize I probably won’t be eating the traditional Thanksgiving dinner or much at all.  Thank God for mashed potatoes!

Emotionally, this has drained me and I try my hardest to stay positive.  That’s why I keep blogging, telling my story, and sharing my life with you.

Today, my Fashion Friday story is all about being thankful even in the midst of illness, the unknown and frustration.

It’s hard to be thankful during times when it feels like my world is falling apart.  I’ve been taught that a grateful heart is a healthy heart.  Psalm 107: 1 tells us, “Give thanks to the Lord for He is good, His mercy endures forever and 1 Thessalonians 5:18 says to give thanks in all circumstances.  I hear it all the time, but do I live it?

Lately, I’ve decided to put my mind on things above and to be intentional about choosing a heart of thanksgiving.  Here are two ways that are helping me give thanks with a grateful heart:

Attitude of gratitude

This is my personal affirmation for keeping my focus during the day. Every morning when I wake up, I take some time to speak all that I am grateful for, and thank God for prayers I haven’t seen answered yet, but have faith to believe. I also make time to pray and read my Bible or my current devotional.

Gratitude Journal

Pouring my heart out on paper also helps keep my mind on being thankful.  I take 15 minutes every morning to write down my blessings.  At night, I also take 15 minutes to free write a note to God and lay down all my cares, concerns and worries.  Then I do a daily recap and list some things I’m thankful for that happened during the day.  I make it as easy as I can, so I use any notebook, journal or even notebook paper.

Here are some things I listed in my gratitude journal today:

I am thankful to be talking to you today  and sharing my story. Thank you!

I’m thankful for each day when I wake up to see my beautiful daughter greet me with a smile and an embrace.

I’m thankful for my loving husband who holds me and prays for me when I feel I just can’t go on.

I’m thankful for my mom who is there to cuddle her daughter up and make her mashed potatoes when I can’t.

I’m thankful for my sister who comforts me through a phone call and lets me know everything is going to be okay because she has many people praying for me.

I’m thankful for my healing though I may not see yet, but I believe by faith that I have my miracle.

“Thanksgiving isn’t all about the meal, hospitality or decked out decor, it’s about being able to say in the midst of all this pain and turmoil that I am thankful for life.  Life is a gift and it only comes once.”

So I wear my “Thankful Grateful Blessed” tee with hope and a smile. As I declare to the whole world: “For all the worse and all the best, I am truly blessed!”.
I don’t know what you’re going through right now, but I challenge you to remember to be thankful for those little things that mean so much!  Be hopeful in the rough and be faithful in the tough.  You are loved, you are blessed!

You all inspire me to keep going and I hope I’ve inspired you.  If you love my THANKFUL tee, you can get it from Cents of StyleFREE with any $25 order placed this month plus free shipping!

5 Tips on How to Wear the Must-Have Swing Dress for the Fall Season {Fashion Friday}

After Hadara and I visited the pumpkin patch last Friday, I was inspired to come home and dig into my closet for all my autumn fashion sorts of sweaters, scarves and boots.  I just love fall fashion- all the fun combinations of colors, layers and boots!  Every year, I want to add a new dress into my fall/winter wardrobe.  Something comfortable, warm, and easy to layer because to tell you the truth, I don’t like cold legs in winter.  Recently, when I saw the Remi swing dress from Cents of Style, I took the plunge and decided to try this flirty, trendy and fun dress out.

I’ve never worn this style of dress before.  It’s all new to me!  Usually, I wear classic cut sheath or form fitting dresses.  However, I found that this dress is very forgiving, comfortable and can be dressed up or worn casual depending on how I accessorize it.   I’m wearing the Serenity Blue color paired with a plaid blanket scarf and chocolate suede ankle wedge booties.  When it gets colder, I think I’ll even add tights or leggings to layer under the dress.  I think that would be so cozy!

I’m finding that there are many combinations and fun ways to switch this dress up.   Here are some more tips on how you can wear the must-have fall swing dress:

  1. Wear your new swing dress with your go-to pendant necklace and a pair of heels. It’s simple and elegant. Hello, holiday parties!
  2. Plaid! Add a plaid shirt tied around your waist for the ideal festival vibe.
  3. It pairs well with everything from a plaid shirt, to a vest, to a kimono, to a pendant necklace…it’s the perfect finishing touch.)
  4. Layer a cute vest over your swing dress. It provides interesting texture and contrast and switches up your look just a little.
  5. Don’t forget our other must-have accessory this Fall & Winter – the kimono. Layer a heavier kimono with a little length over your dress to add a bit of warmth without feeling bulky. You’ll be right on trend.

This weekend, Cents of Style is offering the Remi Swing dress for $21.95 + FREE SHIPPING with code DRESS2016.  With over 17 amazing colors and in sizes Small – 3X (including this year’s hottest jewel tones) it’s a classic staple dress flattering for all figures.  To see for yourself,  watch the 1 swing dress, 3 different body types video and see tips on how to accessorize your swing dress.

My Life is Beautiful! Fashion Friday

This week’s Fashion Friday is one dear to my heart and thanks to Cents of Style, their new “Life Is” shirt line is just what I needed.  For I’m living in a season right now, where even though I may face the unknown, this phrase, Life is Beautiful  is a perfect reminder to thank God for every breath and every day.

Recently, I’ve been dealing with health issues I’ve never had to deal with before.  It’s been 6 months.  I’ve gone through a time of frustration, sadness, worry, doubt, uncertainty and self-pity.  I needed to find a way to get myself out if this pit, and have faith that everything will work out.

It’s just different when it comes to health for me.  Other things I seem to handle, but not knowing what’s going on inside of me has been hard to deal with.  I work out and eat healthy, yet I still needed a healing strategy.  My faith has been tossed in the wind.  Yet, I continue to hold on to the one who holds me.  My God in whom I trust.

Last month, the day before my 41st birthday, I scheduled my first endoscopy.  I left the doctor’s office feeling relieved knowing that I’d soon find some answers.  Hopefully.   However, 2 weeks later, because of insurance conflicts, I needed to cancel the surgery.  I was back to square one.

This past weekend, things got complicated.  Ruben and Hadara rushed me to ER.  I prayed before we left for God to prepare my heart for any diagnosis and give me the strength to understand His plan and will.  After blood tests, and a CT scan, I was released after 4 hours with nothing serious to show, but just a cold virus to get over.  We were all so thankful to the Lord for this praise report.  I left feeling the Lord’s peace and a new hope renewed in me.

The whole truth, is that yes I doubted sometimes and was afraid some nights as I lay awake in bed wondering, how could I make the most of my life with the time I’m given.  What would happen to my family, and so many others if I was not here?  Those thoughts crossed my mind, yet I refused to let them become my final outcome because I stand on the promises God has set before me.  I chose to listen to the voice of truth and even laying there in that CT scan bed as I held my breath, I chose to see my life is beautiful.  I’m alive!

Honestly, it’s been a time of me reflecting.  My life.  Realizing how important the things in life really are and how I want to savor the slow.   In all of this self-examination, I’ve been reminded by this negative obstacle just how beautiful life really is. . . my life.  Life in general.  Being a mom and wife.  Loving my family and living life like every breath is significant.  Yes, to breath and embrace every moment.  Giving all that I can so that when I’m gone, many can know that life is beautiful.  None of us know the time or season when we will leave this earth, for life is a vapor.

So, just in case you’ve forgotten or got off course like me.  You may want to declare your own “Life Is” season by wearing it proudly.

This weekend, you can get the NEW “Life Is” Tees for $15.95, with FREE SHIPPING!  Use coupon code is LIFEIS1.  The code is good Friday, 9/23 – Sunday, 9/25

4th of July Inspired Outfit of the Day

I love to dress up for 4th of July!  Red, white and blue make a great color combination for summer inspired outfits.  I kept it casual, yet classy with my love for nautical in there.  Today, I’m wearing my 4th of July inspired outfit.  I found the navy blue striped blouse and high waisted white shorts at Bealls Outlet.  Aren’t they cute?  I added a cute rose hair clip to my blouse for extra festive flair.  My white wedge sandals are from Ross.  I painted my toes red and baby blue.  For my nails, I went with a frosted white nail color.  Star sparkle earrings that dangle and blue and red bracelets add some color.  To top it off, a girl can’t go wrong with red lips!  I’m wearing Mary Kay’s lipgloss in Rock n’ Red.  I love that color.  Also, you’re seeing my hair just washed and in its natural state.  Didn’t have time to style it with hot tools, so just let it air dry and rockin’ the beachy waves look.  Do you enjoy dressing up for Independence day too?  Be sure to watch my video of how I put together my outfit today.  Hopefully it will give you some inspiration for your 4th of July outfit.  Enjoy the video!

Here’s to a safe and blessed 4th of July.  I pray that you have a fun day with your family and remember that freedom isn’t free.  Yet, Jesus came to set the captives free and whoever is free in Jesus is free indeed!

Blessings and Shalom,

Coastal Inspired Summer Outfit {Fashion Friday}

I admit.  It’s been a while since I’ve written a Fashion Friday post.  Summer has inspired me to begin again.  I enjoy writing these posts and sharing them with you. You’ve also shared that you like these posts as well.  So here we go. . .

“I’m missing the ocean.  I miss the sea.
The white sandy beaches are calling my name.
If I can’t go there, I can bring it to me.”

Today, my outfit is inspired by the beautiful flavors of salty air and aqua blue waters.  My little star fish friend also joins me for Fashion Friday.  White is a color that is a staple in my summer wardrobe.  I’m definitely not afraid to wear white.  White is cool, crisp and classic.  Pair it with any color and you’ve got a stylish summer outfit.  I’m wearing my white capris and white wrap around the ankle sandals.  I added a baby blue tank top and layered it with a crochet crop top.  This top is special to me, because it belonged to my godmother/Aunt Mary Ann.  It’s a beautiful piece I received after her passing many years ago.   She loved the ocean as well, being a avid scuba diver and beach lover.  Her and my Uncle Fred traveled to many shores around the world.  Do you want to know a fun fact about this cute top?  When my Aunt lived in Las Vegas,  she was asked to be in a fashion show.  This is the very top she modeled!  Fashion for me involves the meaning behind the outfit as well.   If you’ve been following my blog, you know that I get my fashion inspiration from beautiful memories and color meanings.   I must feel happy, pretty and joy.  And this outfit does all that!  Do you also like coastal inspired outfits?  Be looking forward to more coastal inspired posts and videos soon.

Please check out my short video I made of my outfit of the day below.  While you’re here subscribe to our YouTube channel.  Have a beautiful weekend!

Blessings and Shalom,

Fashion Friday: Date Night!

This was my Wednesday outfit when Ruben and I went on our weekly date night this week.  This time we went for coffee and a doughnut.  We take full advantage of the hour when Hadara is at piano lessons for our connect time.  It may be short, but it’s so worth it!    I wore my pink polka dot blouse (another hand-me down from my Mom), which if you know me by now, I love polka dots and pink!  I layered it with a winter white cardigan from Express.  I paired it with my jean capris.  Yes, I wear my capris with my high boots and long socks in winter.  You would never know they’re capris right?  I finished off the outfit with my trusty black leather boots that have literally been with me for 13 years!  The crazy thing is they are so comfortable and that Easy Spirit brand.  Do you remember those?  I know, they’re old, but that’s me.

It’s been raining here.  Cloudy and grey skies in Arizona today.  I’m really loving the weather!  Sure beats Arizona summer heat.  Believe me, I love winter in Arizona.  Really.

Hope you have a beautiful weekend!

Blessings and Shalom,

Do you love polka dots?  Do you and your husband enjoy a weekly date night too?

Flashback Fashion Friday {Mommy Daughter Love}

Fashion Flashback-Looking back to Move Forward.

As you can tell, my daughter and I are very close.  When I was pregnant with her, I didn’t know she was a girl.  Ruben and I waited until the morning she was born to find out.   We were thankful to have a boy or girl, but when the doctor said, “she’s a girl!”, I was joyfully ecstatic!  I couldn’t wait to leave the hospital and go shopping for pink girly everything!  Hadara Rose is our little blessing and my life has never been the same since the first time I looked at her precious beautiful face.  The funny thing about mommy-hood is that you never know what you’re missing until your little baby is born.  Then your life is changed.  Forever.  How can a mother’s heart have that much love to give and pour out?  To be selfless and protecting.  Nurturing and forgiving.  A love that the Bible even compares to the Father’s love for His children.  He loves us like a mother loves her newborn child.

Today’s Fashion Friday is not a typical post, but a Fashion and Flashback Friday combined.  It’s fun to look back and see how far you’ve come.  As a mommy, it’s hard to believe that my precious little baby girl that was five years old in these photos, is now nearing ten.  How could it be that I’ve been homeschooling her for five years?  How could it be that for five years I’ve been holding play dates, tea parties, and dress-up afternoons?  The list can go on, but yes, the years do go on.  I remember at that age, Hadara loved to wear flip flops with everything.  That week, she had her first pedicure so she wanted to show it off.  She also loved to pick her own creative outfits at that age and completely wore the opposite of what I would suggest.  Can you say, “Miss Independent”?

And then there is Mom.  How have I changed?  I can say through the grace of God, He has continued to do a work in me.  Looking at that woman standing in the picture, I remember I was less confident.  Although, I had gone through the baby and toddler phase with Hadara, it seemed scarier to me for the what lie ahead.  I was becoming a homeschool mommy to a only child and blindly ready to face the world.  I had no clue what I was doing.  Ever feel like that?  Yet, I wore a smile and that polka dot dress.   It’s the same dress I wore when I left the hospital to go home after having baby Hadara.  I loved that dress-very forgiving!

As a new mommy, I was unsure.  As a mommy of a five year old, I was unsure.  No matter what phase in mommy-hood we are at, it’s good to know that we won’t stay there.  Growth is a good word for women to have in their vocabulary.  With lessons learned, experience and well, just life. . . I can truly understand how the measure of a mom’s love can outweigh confidence.     It’s not based on how ready you are for the next curve ball, or how many parenthood books or blogs you’ve read.  You are on your own motherhood journey.  With God, you are the mommy He has called you to be.  For the children He has given you.  Just be that.  Just love . . . and everything else will fall into place.

Colossians 3: 12-14

Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.   Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.  And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.

Blessings and Shalom,

What about you?  Was there ever a time in your life, when you lacked the confidence to be a Mom?

Fashion Friday {Mommy Style: How to look chic in winter attire.}

Looking chic in winter everyday attire.

Welcome to my mommy world.  When out and about, running errands, and grocery shopping I like to dress what I call Mommy Style.  My definition of Mommy Style is comfortable, functional yet fashionable.    Being a Mom doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice style.  Looking cute on the go just takes a little time and effort.     When I have some makeup on, hair styled and a cute outfit, oh and don’t forget a big smile, I feel like I can take on the world.  After all, I am a busy Mom on a mission.
On Wednesday, it’s our family day to run errands, shop and take Hadara to piano lessons.  Since we homeschool during the week, it breaks the monotony.  I look forward to these days tremendously, yet I will be honest.  I was in a hurry when I got ready this Wednesday morning.  However, I find sometimes I can put together chic outfits while under pressure.  Are you like that?  Again, I let color inspire my outfit.  I felt like wearing- Navy.  Got it.  Walked into my closet and starting picking and choosing the look.  That’s it!
What’s my Mommy Style outfit of the week?
I wore jean jeggings that I think my Mom gave me.  They are a little saggy on me now, since I lost weight.  I love the navy and taupe chevron tunic I found at Ross last spring for like $9 which I paired with my favorite navy cardigan from Jane.  You can’t really see it from the photo, but it has shiny bling on the lapel.  It’s classic with attitude, besides I think every mommy should sparkle.  I’ve been wearing boots more since the temps are lower here in Arizona.   I can’t stand my legs and feet to be cold!  Ruben gave me these Top Moda riding boots for Christmas last year from Zulily and they are so comfortable.  I joke with Hadara and call them my “Prince Charming” boots.  My pearl bracelet and necklace is a past birthday gift from Ruben.  My on the go burgandy bag is Coach.
As Hadara headed to piano lessons, she wore a cute heart top with pink leggings and Rampage black boots.  I love how she mixes neutrals with bright colors.  She’s not afraid to be bold and show her personality.  Her pink flower head band was a gift from her Uncle Josh and she’s sporting her Let’s Play Music bag.  She’s so cute!
Well there you have it, Mommy and Daughter Fashion Friday!  I hope it inspired you to find your own Mommy Style.  It’s whatever makes you feel beautiful!  Have a beautiful and restful weekend.
What is your Mommy Style?

Fashion Friday {Winter Coat Style}

Looking Cute when it’s Cold. . .

It’s January and baby it’s cold outside!  When it comes to cold weather, I’m a wimp.  I just don’t like to be cold.  I guess I’ve been living in the Arizona heat for so long, I just can’t take the cold.  However, I do think it’s fun to dress in winter apparel during this season.  It’s usually not too cold here, but after the snow day we had yesterday, weather has been pretty chilly.

Winter fashion is tricky.  How do you dress nice when no one really sees what your’e wearing when you’re bundled up in outerwear?  What’s the secret to looking cute when it’s cold outside?

Accessories my friend.  Scarfs, mittens, coats, sweaters, hats and boots!  I love to have fun with color in my accessories.  I love how Hadara and I have almost matching coats this year.  No, we didn’t plan this.  Mostly, these things just sort of happen.  I bought my white wool coat on Amazon four years ago when I worked for Apple.  I love wearing winter white.  It has a nostalgic look and it’s classic all at the same time.  A white coat also makes it easy to pop color in my accessories like my pink mittens and plaid scarf.  Here we are wearing our matching outfits at my Mom’s for New Years Eve.

I bought Hadara’s coat at Burlington Coat Factory in September.  She out grew her coat from two years ago, so Ruben and I knew it was time to buy her another one this winter.  When I saw this coat on the rack, I just knew it was perfect.  I love the black buttons and fur hoodie that unzips and can be taken off.

For the first time, this winter, we are a matching mother daughter.   Which I enjoy because one day, she may not appreciate matching her Mom.  Until then, I’ll enjoy being twinsies with my mini-me.

How do you accessorize with your winter outer wear?

Happy New Year!
